Almost 300 Bahrians joined the students from other educational institutes to witness live action between Manchester United and Barcelona.  This is for the first time that a company-sponsored football match was “put on show” for students.

The final of UEFA cup between the top clubs started at 12: 45 am but still two out of five of the halls were packed with football fans and many students had to wait in queues!

Students really appreciated Telenor Djuice for sponsoring this action packed event but there were few complaints as there had been more invitations sent out but the sponsor than the actual number of seats available at Cinepax.

A Software Engineering student from 4th semester protested against the library rule of not allowing “floor seating”. He told X-news team that there are only 60 chairs in the library for about 4000 regular Bahria University students. He also said that Bahria library staff is very unaffable and are not cooperative at all.

Bahria University is listed as one of the premier institutions of the capital. It is also highly ranked in terms of infra structure and facilities provided to students. Bahria has everything for students, well equipped labs, integrated LAN network, Wi-fi Internet, cosy cafe, central air conditioned campus but it really lags behind when it comes to library facilities. The authorities should take serious notice of the condition and should take necessary steps.

The campaign of fundraising for the refugees of Swat was initially planned for 3-days but the funds are still “rushing in” even after a 7 working days! A target of 150,000 rupees was set for 3 days but the charity money has crossed the target and the figure now stands at almost 290,000 rupees! Students have also received essential food items and daily usables. The food items and other stuff will be handed over to Edhi Foundation. The response of the Bahria students has been great and it seems that “rushing in” of funds will continue for a few more days.

The interior of the new campus building of Bahria University Islamabad was transformed into a ” gaming zone” by the hardworking BACSAP teams. This overnight turning into gaming zone was a result of “Gamerz Tournament 09″.

GT is the biggest gaming event of the twin cities. This signature event of Bahria University Islamabad is organised by Bahrian’s Association of Computer Students And Professionals – BACSAP every six months. GT attracts gamers from all over Pakistan and the gamers “push hard” to win tens of thousands rupees in prize money. This time, because of security issues in the capital, teams from Peshawar, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi & Topi had participated.

GT 09 kicked off at 09 am with FiFa 09,  Takken 5, Medal of Honor and Need For Speed. There were lot of spectators who had come to cheer their favourite teams. The organiser had also installed open projectors at different places in the new campus building so that the spectator could follow the games and support their favourite teams!

Need For Speed final was played between UET Peshawar and Bahria University Islamabad. The 3-lap final was won by UET Peshawar. The most interesting final match was played between UET Peshawar and Bahria University for FIFA 09. UET team won the game but Bahria University’s performance was also appreciated. Takken 5 final was won by Ali Bari of Bahria University. Medal of Honor Allied Assault (Mohaa) was won by a group called ACS. The ACS team had five teenagers but were able to knock out one of the most senior teams of Islamabad.

The GT 09 was a huge success and the chairman BACSAP Mr. Obaid Mahmood promised to bring more fun and energy with the next GT!
